Nishta

Vice President, Technology
Year of hire: 2007

My Role

Nishta

I work with the Trade Capture group for the Rates IT division as a Project Manager on the Sales and Trading Efficiency programme. This role allows me to work closely with various internal IT teams along with the Rates Traders, Sales and Operations groups to build a trading platform that improves the percentages for STP (straight-through-processing). I am closely involved with the Dodd-Frank initiative which requires us to monitor changes in the financial regulatory environment and enhance our systems accordingly. I look forward to coming into work as every day holds new challenges.

My Journey

I graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India in 2003 with a Masters in Mathematics and Computer Applications. As a student, I explored new avenues by pursuing internships in Germany and Australia. I enjoyed this exposure as it helped me learn about different industries and cultures. It also gave me a rich experience and an understanding of the fast-paced nature of global finance. From this experience, I realised my passion for finance, so I joined a financial services firm in India. This gave me exposure to the investment banking world and eventually helped me relocate to New York. In 2007, I decided to join Barclays Capital, having interviewed with a number of competitor firms. The reason I chose Barclays is not only because I was so impressed by the firm’s client focus, but also its commitment to building a global brand. Finally, I was very impressed with the caliber of people I met during the recruiting process so I was excited by the prospect of joining the firm and accepted the offer.

The First Six Months

When I joined Barclays Capital, I was inspired by the support I received from my colleagues. They really helped me come up to speed in my new role. They put in extra effort to make sure I understood the systems and ensured that I was moving in the right direction. Now, as the Trade Capture team has grown from ten to almost a hundred members, I do my best to assist new joiners and provide them with the same support I received. It is important that I foster the same culture of teamwork that I experienced upon joining. On multiple occasions, new joiners have mentioned to me that their teams are eager to train them too. I am proud that Barclays Capital strives to create a collaborative and inclusive work environment where colleagues of different backgrounds can openly contribute their best ideas and talent.

When I Am Not Working

Whilst I work very hard and need to be flexible, I still have the ability to pursue my interests outside work. In the summertime, I like going out for long distance bike rides. This year, I went for a 70-mile bike ride to Montauk, Long Island with some of my colleagues. I also like going away for ski weekends and exploring the mountains in the winter, and I’m glad that my work allows me to that. Most importantly, working at Barclays Capital allows me to frequently visit home which is India. This year I have already made two trips and am planning another one towards the end of the year.
