Anil
Analyst, Equity Derivatives Confirmations and Projects London
Year of Hire: 2007
My Role

I work in Equity Derivatives Confirmations and currently heavily involved in a project to implement a new Confirmation system for the OTC Equity Derivatives Confirmations team. This role allows me to work with different teams internally. I work closely with IT, Equity Derivative Change Management and with the Confirmations team to ensure we are bringing the best system possible for our Confirmations workflow. Our day-to-day involves testing the new system in a dummy environment and ensuring that any defects are brushed out before going live. No day is ever the same which is great for employees who want to perform to their top level.
The Confirmations workflow is complex yet important in order for Barclays Capital to meet its FED targets. Automation of Confirmations to the clients will help Barclays Capital ensure that they send out accurate Confirmations to the clients on time and they receive them back signed from the client on time also. This benefits everyone not only Sales and Traders who will not need to approve certain confirmations in the near future.
My Journey
I graduated from Liverpool John Moores University in 2005 with an MSc in International Banking and Finance and a BA Hons in Business Administration. During university, I was one of four course representatives who volunteered to be mentors for the rest of the class. Following graduation, I worked for a stockbroker in Liverpool which was a stepping stone into the world of Investment Banking and relocation to London.
I decided to join Barclays Capital in July 2007 after having interviews with three or four other financial firms. I was particularly impressed with the opportunities available and was keen to make the big step moving down South once I received the good news.
I began working in the Equity Derivatives Outgoing documentation team drafting OTC ISDA Confirmations. As a Drafter, I was exposed to a variety of Equity Derivative products and had the chance to build my profile when dealing directly with Sales and Traders.
International Mobility
During my first few months of working here, I knew I made the right choice of joining Barclays Capital.
In November 2009, I sought a transfer to Singapore. My managers were helpful in finding me a role and were overall positive about Internal Mobility. My move came about in December 2009 where I secured a role in the Equity Derivatives Incoming documentation team chasing clients to sign and return OTC ISDA Confirmations. My colleagues ensured my relocation was smooth and offered their assistance to ensure I settled in quickly My overall experience of Singapore was second-to-none having the opportunity to enhance my career and, of course, travelling to its nearby exotic islands for a holiday. In April 2011, I then decided to return to London to take up a role in Equity Derivatives Confirmations and Projects.
So far, I have thoroughly enjoyed the variety in pace that each role has given me and the opportunity to liaise with different stakeholders within the bank. The opportunities to build your career are endless and managers are there to guide you and help fulfil your career ambitions.
When I Am Not Working
I have a lot of personal interests and most of them revolve around sports. My favourite of all sports is cricket. As an avid cricket fan of India for the last 15 years or so, I enjoy going away to watch cricket with my favourite moment being in Mumbai for my birthday to see India lift the World Cup. During the week I also participate in 5 a side football maintaining a healthy body healthy mind balance. I have also recently under taken a 10 week course to learn Mandarin. The skill to balance work and life is important and this is one of the reasons why I enjoy working at Barclays Capital.
